The decannulation cap allows the patient to initiate normal breathing. The cap is used when weaning patients off of a ventilator. Decannulation Caps are accessories for tracheostomy tubes that are often needed for easing a patient off a ventilator. The Decannulation Caps are simply placed over the end of Portex trach cannula so the flow of air out the tracheostomy tube will be blocked and the patient can take over and breathe unassisted.
